Legislation
Through its staff connection to the Mental Health Association in California CAYEN leaders will be provided with the opportunity to review pending legislation that may affect transition age youth not just in mental health but in related areas and to provide recommendations and direct advocacy to the state legislature.
CAYEN leaders will meet directly with state legislators and their staff to communicate these view points.
In addition, through the full time lobbyist employed by the Mental Health Association in California CAYEN can effectively propose new legislation and have an opportunity to see that legislation be successful.
California Mental Health Directors Association/TAY Committee
The key committee for TAY representation is the TAY subcommittee of the California Mental Health Directors Association.
The California Mental Health Directors Association is comprised of the county mental health directors in each of California’s 58 counties. Staff from those counties participates in the children, adults, and older adults system of care committees. The special subcommittee comprised of representatives of the children and adults system of care committees has created a transition age youth subcommittee. That committee has developed a manual for recommended services to be provided to transition age youth. CAYEN will not only work with that committee to review that document but also work to restructure all services so that they are properly structured to meet the needs of transition age youth who may reach the public mental health system with a wide variety of needs and there is no one size fits all solution.
