LOCAL Advocacy

CAYEN provides several methods for supporting transition age youth in local advocacy these include:

- Identifying youth, supporting individuals, families and organizations that are interested in local mental health issues and providing forums for these individuals to organize their views and to appear before county mental health policy forums.

- Provide information to county mental health directors on key policies and programs that should benefit transition age youth.  Current activities include recommendation for the establishment of TAY centers and establishment of TAY advocacy councils similar to that which is established in Sacramento staffed by the Mental Health Association of Sacramento and there are two centers similar to that established in San Bernardino County.

- Provide resources to support local advocates and helping them understand strategies and methods that are successful in providing conference calls, internet forums and other ways that advocates in different counties can compare notes and develop more effective strategies.
